Serie A var ifølge IFFHS verdens stærkeste nationale liga i 2020,[1] og er rangeret som den tredje bedste blandt de europæiske ligaer ifølge UEFA's liga-koefficient. UEFA's liga-koefficient er baseret på de italienske klubbers præstationer i Champions League og Europa League i løbet af de foregående fem år. Serie A toppede UEFA's rangliste fra 1986 til 1988 og igen fra 1990 til 1999.[2]
